What drives heat pump cost
- Capacity in tons from a load calculation.
- Efficiency (SEER2 / HSPF) and any backup heat.
- Ductwork condition and electrical needs.
Why it is not the same as an AC price
A heat pump replaces your furnace too, so weigh it against the cost of replacing both heating and cooling — not against an AC alone. Judged that way, it often competes well.
Failure modes
Undersizing, skipping a backup-heat plan, or ignoring the long-run payback of higher efficiency all lead to regret. The cheapest install is not always the lowest lifetime cost.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is a heat pump more expensive than an AC?
- Up front it can be somewhat more than an AC alone, but it also replaces the furnace — so compare it to the cost of both systems. For our climate it is frequently a strong value.
- Are there rebates for heat pumps?
- Rebates and tax credits exist at times and change frequently, so we will point you to the current programs rather than quote outdated figures. We never promise an incentive we cannot verify.

With financing through Wisetack, Goodleap, FTL, the monthly payment can be less than what you save — so an upgrade can pay you back long before the headline payback year.
